Blood Pressure Control in Young Adults
Recruitment: Part I - Closed, Part II - Open
About
The purpose of this study is to assess the safety, efficacy, and feasibility of using different agents and devices in two parts to achieve home blood pressure control and monitoring in younger adult patients with high blood pressure.
Part I - Devices
- The objective is to determine what blood pressure devices are preferable to young adults with hypertension for at home monitoring. Participants are randomly assigned to a traditional blood pressure cuff and/or wrist monitor, or chest patch
Part II - Agents
- The objective is to determine whether young adults who need blood pressure medications respond differently to three different blood pressure medications or have different side effect profiles when they are treated with amlodipine, chlorthalidone, or losartan.
Eligibility
- between the ages of 18-40
- have a diagnosis of hypertension and taking an anti-hypertensive medication OR have an office BP >=130/80 mmHg and have a home BP >=125/80 during the first week of study
If you are a UCSF patient and interested in participating in Part II of the study, please contact us at [email protected]
Innovation
We are using novel blood pressure devices in this study to assess at home blood pressure monitoring, including a watch and patch
